south african blog awards!

OK, so, I had no idea blogging was this hot in SA. Not only are there some fantastic sites (I wonder who nominated me?), but even more lists of great sites in the comments of the archives. Mos Def kick back for a few hours with your bookmarks and RSS ...

I'm really struggling with how to write this post, as a runner up I can only imagine how it's going to come across, but fuck it, it needs to be said. First port of call was Obz café in

hi,

This comes as a total surprise to me. Our blog, South African scuba diving, marine and environmental blog (http://www.divesouth.co.za/blog - now changed to http://divesouthafrica.blogspot.com) has been awarded the runner-up in the "Environmental" category.

Thank you for those who nominated us and thank you to those who voted. We appreciate it very much. We do promise to provide a quality blog for many a year to come.
Thanks

I am not afraid to say the following and attach my name to the comment: I think some of the categories that won were completely deservant of their award. Well done and good on you lot (Redsaid, Commentary etc) but...

I think that while the good spirit that this event was intended to be run with remains, the credibility of the whole exercise has been eroded by having a poor looking, poorly slapped together, advertising hot-spot of site winning the overall award.

Would I be singing a different tune if I had won? I don't know. If I had, who knows what might have happened: After receiving the award, my distended sense of self worth, fueled by flu-aggravated dementia, might have pushed me over the edge and I would sell my Monty Python collection on a whim to some pimply ingrate on eBay, while my household pets suffer the indignity of having to drink water from the toilet bowl because I become too absorbed in blogging to remain unplugged and integrated into daily life and social interactivity, except for the addictive lure of chat rooms, where I drop soliloquay deliberately in order to attract attention from once-fawning sycophants regarding my brief yet auspicious recognition as winner of a blog award, the frustration of their ignorance, eventually driving me to the point of madness where I listen to Violent Femme's Hallowed Ground over and over and contemplate genocide and coup attempts on small pacific island states...

It's like stopping Hitler at Munich.

Jokes aside, I am not much of a designer and therefore didn't have the audacity to enter into any of the categories where quality of design was a factor. Nevertheless, seeing 2OceansVibe winning it, makes me doubt the power of democracy and the validity of anonymous voting.

2005 South African blog awards

So I was browsing through the newer posts on Coffe-Shop Schmuck and I noticed a reference to the 2005 South African blog awards. And there I was labouring under the mistaken belief that the local blogging scene was grossly under-developed and limited....

Thanks a stack for organising these awards!

btw, can I use the sa blog awards 2005 logo on my site.

Next year JeanPant.com is DEFINITELY going to win something, maybe not tech blog of the year though. Maybe the How-To-Overhaul-A-V8-Over-A-Weekend-Blog.
